The project originates from the cooperation between Weiwuying and the young European choreographer network, Aerowaves in 2017, and launched the “Museum of Human E-motions” project across Europe and Asia supported by Creative Europe and Dancing Museums. Museum of Human E-motions is an experimental creative development of public space project presented by four international institutions supporting contemporary creations: the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), Centro per la Scena Contemporanea Bassano del Grappa, Italy, Centre de développement chorégraphique national du Val-de-Marne, France, and The Saison Foundation, Japan.
Since the impossibility to travel across countries and continents, it offers the opportunity to develop new forms of artistic and social connections, new ways to articulate dialogues and cultural exchanges, new approaches to dance practices and creative processes.
Last year, the project included the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong, and all partners will explore the digital space as the floor where to co-imagine the third edition of the Museum of Human E-motions. The project will try to find new ways to share the creative processes, the storytelling, the inspirations and practices that are originated by the cultural and social contexts, to connect with audiences and among audiences based in the five countries. This year, Weiwuying will present dancer YU Yen-Fang as its Artist of Museum of Human E-motions.
For the residency, YU Yen-Fang continues with her extensive research on the late singer FENG Fei-Fei (past projects include theater works Dream Catcher: A Night of Dance and More Than I Can Say, as well as FENG Fei-Fei creative research workshop “Do You Still Like FENG Fei-fei?”) and takes a deep dive into the bustling culture of live performances during the 70s and 80s in Taiwan while also reflecting on her childhood memories, educational experience, and her identity in the context of the body. Based on the research of the original site of the Blue Diamond, a live performance venue that was incredibly famous in southern Taiwan, as well as a nostalgic tour of the old dance clubs of Kaohsiung, Yu’s theater/dance work reflects on the topic of the residency, which is the emotional dialogue between the body and space.
